1. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
2. On the unbuttered side of the bread, stack one slice of American cheese, then the slice of Swiss cheese, then the other slice of American cheese.
3. Put the other slice of bread on top of the cheese, buttered side up.
4. Toast sandwich in a pan on the stove on medium heat about 3 – 5 minutes, flipping occasionally until bread is toasted brown and cheese is melted.
5. Slice sandwich into 2 or 4 pieces to serve.
